| The Model 1861, normally known as 'Springfield', was used by the Union army in the civil war and famed for its reliability. With a 40 inch long barrel and 9 points of weight, it used percussion caps to fire off minie balls. At the end of the barrel one could attach a triangular socket bayonet. | |
